GENDER HARASSMENT COMMITTEE

   A gender harassment committee, also known as a sexual harassment committee, is a group of individuals appointed by an organization to address and prevent gender-based harassment or sexual misconduct within the workplace or academic environment. The committee is responsible for receiving complaints, investigating allegations, and ensuring that appropriate action is taken to address any incidents of gender harassment or sexual misconduct.

The members of the committee are trained to handle complaints with sensitivity, maintain confidentiality, and provide support to complainants.  The gender harassment committee plays a crucial role in creating a safe and inclusive work or academic environment, where all individuals can work or study without fear of harassment or discrimination.

Functions

  1. Prevention Measures: The committee is responsible for creating a safe and supportive environment for all employees, free from any kind of gender-based harassment or discrimination. The committee undertakes preventive measures such as creating awareness among employees, conducting orientation programs, and implementing policies and procedures.

  2. Complaint Mechanism: The committee establishes a complaint mechanism, where employees can report any incident of gender-based harassment or discrimination. The committee ensures that complaints are received in confidence and strict action is taken against the culprits.

  3. Investigation Process: The committee has a clear process for investigating complaints of gender-based harassment or discrimination. This  includes conducting interviews, gathering evidence, and determining whether the accused has violated the policies and procedures.

  4. Sanctions for Perpetrators: The organization imposes severe penalties, including suspension, termination, or fines, on those found guilty of gender-based harassment or discrimination. The committee ensures that legal action is taken against those who violate the rules.

  5. Counseling and Support: The committee provides counseling and support to employees who have been victims of gender-based harassment or discrimination. The committee ensures that victims receive the necessary support and care to cope with the trauma.

  6. Regular Meetings: The committee conducts regular meetings to discuss the progress of anti-harassment activities and to review policies and procedures.

  7. Reporting to Authorities: The gender harassment committee reports any incident of gender harassment to the appropriate authorities, including the police and local administration
