Developing respectful, safety-focused understanding of women’s health across the lifespan.
Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology provides students with an organised understanding of reproductive health, pregnancy, childbirth, the puerperium and common gynaecological disorders. It deals with the anatomy and physiology of reproduction, diagnosis and supervision of normal pregnancy, antenatal care, physiological changes, stages and mechanism of labour, normal delivery, lactation and newborn care. Students are introduced to obstetric complications, abnormal labour, haemorrhage, hypertensive disorders, anaemia, malpresentation, multiple pregnancy and operative procedures so that they can recognise emergencies and refer without delay. Gynaecology includes menstrual disorders, infection, infertility, prolapse, tumours, menopause and family-welfare methods. The department emphasises dignity, consent, privacy, careful documentation and supportive role of naturopathy and yoga within coordinated medical care.
