Building movement assessment, exercise prescription and physical-modality skills.

Department of Physiotherapy

The Department of Physiotherapy introduces the principles of exercise therapy, movement analysis and physical modalities. Students study mechanics, starting positions, active and passive movements, muscle assessment and strengthening, joint mobilisation, relaxation, posture, coordination, gait, crutch walking, neuromuscular facilitation, suspension therapy and therapeutic exercise. Electrotherapy includes electrical fundamentals, low-frequency stimulation, faradic and galvanic currents, shortwave and microwave diathermy, ultrasound, infrared, ultraviolet, TENS/interferential concepts and wax therapy. Practical training develops skill in range-of-motion work, muscle re-education, posture correction, breathing exercises, gait training, equipment setup and contraindication screening. The department emphasises functional goals, measurement, patient comfort and safe referral for fracture, acute neurological deficit, severe pain or suspected systemic disease.

Students Learning Outcomes

✔ Assess basic movement, posture, muscle strength and joint range
✔ Plan and demonstrate foundational therapeutic exercises
✔ Use selected physical modalities with correct preparation and contraindication checks
✔ Recognise musculoskeletal and neurological red flags requiring specialist care
